Trace clear source shapes
Start with distinct edges and a limited color palette. Compare the trace with the original before editing.
Check paths at the final size
Tiny islands and narrow gaps can make a design difficult to weed. Inspect them at the dimensions you will cut.
Resolve overlap deliberately
Use an editor or cutting software to inspect duplicate contours and decide which shapes should be joined or separated.
Test the actual material
A preview cannot establish the right blade or material settings. Make a small test cut before committing the full design.

Review before sending a job to the cutter
- Set physical dimensions and confirm that narrow strokes and small details remain practical at that size.
- Inspect closed contours, unwanted specks, duplicate paths, and overlapping regions.
- Review whether colors should be separate pieces, joined shapes, or separate material layers.
- Follow the material's instructions for mirroring and placement where required.
- Check the cut preview, make a test cut, and adjust the design or machine settings based on the result.
A lower node count can simplify editing, but simplification can also change corners and thin details. Compare the source and the edited SVG after each significant change.
